The Black Wellness Initiative (BWI) is a specialist provider of ethnocentric wellness and recovery services as well as consultations on behalf of and in conjunction with public service organisations.
We work with communities and their individual members to plan and develop services that support their wellness aspirations and needs, as well as support people in recovery. We do this through specific focus on their uniqueness, their sense of identity, values, rituals and activities.
We work with public human services in planning and provision of services to citizens and residents in their communities that reflect the aspirations of the communities and can exceed the traditional standardised approach.
We are leading the development of a practice based learning and accreditation programme in socio-psychological programme of personal and organisational development that reflects the diversity of people’s experiences. This is in response to expressed needs by professionals and sector workers as well as the organisational leaders for a framework the guides learning and working reflective of ethnocentrism.
We continue to develop frameworks to support people’s experiences in articulating the aspirations and needs for wellness and recovery in ways that are grounded in their reality much more than an external idealistic perspective.
