Frameworks

The BWI has developed community based definitions of wellness and recovery as well as the factors considered to be important by community groups. A community based approach was employed to develop the frameworks and they have been applied successfully in other settings, albeit with necessary adjustment and “localisation”.

We have developed what our communities consider working definitions of wellness and recovery and the factors that are important to support wellness as well as those required to facilitate recovery. These have been applied as a probable basis for a service charter for people using mental health care services in one locality.

The same process have been essential in informing health and social care executives to determine how to plan and shape their services and service provision to reflect the ethnic aspirations and needs (generally referred to as culturally sensitive services).
